General Field Crew PT or FT This position begins between mid-April through October. We offer starting hours of 20-25 hours and capping at 40 hrs / week. At least 1 season of experience is required for this position. An ideal candidate demonstrates clear communication, ability to follow instructions, self-motivation and attention to detail. A plus if you are interested in no-till farming! We are looking for someone to keep pace in the field while harvesting, trellising, staking and hand-weeding.
Work at Astarte Farm is diverse, ranging from greenhouse seedling production, greenhouse pruning and trellising, transplanting, weeding, harvesting field crops, & washing and packing produce for delivery, to building and repairing farm infrastructure. Employees are often called upon to do different and sometimes tedious jobs in all kinds of weather.
Employees are required to: • Be on time, and ready to work • Be prepared for the work day with appropriate clothing, water and anything else you need to work. • Keep track of your hours on Astarte Farm timesheet. • Call or Text if you are unable to make it to work.
Harvest Manager The responsibilities of this position are Manage the two harvest days of the week (Monday and Thursday) and coordinate if more harvest is required during bumper crop conditions Monitor and manage the quality packed for customers and uphold standards set by Production Manager and Farm Manager Monitor harvest tools, consumables (boxes, labels, rubber bands), pack house supplies & conditions and delegate tasks to crew maintaining those areas Monitor field and crop conditions, reporting to the Production Manager and coordinating with the propagation specialist for target harvest dates, yields etc.
Propagation Position We are hiring for a position starting in late February or early March on an organic no-till farm in central Hadley. This position begins with 15 hrs/wk and peaks at 25 hrs/wk. The schedule is flexible. At least one weekend day is required April through August. This position will be combined with General Field Crew hours for a full-time position.
This position entails working closely with the production manager to follow the seeding schedule based on the field plan and seedling orders. Experience with seeding is a positive but not necessary. It is necessary that you are able to do tedious work repeatedly through the season and keep track of your progress during a long task. Efficiency in these tasks is learned, often the tasks do not change over the season, however the environment and types of seeds/materials change. This position also includes managing the activity of transplanting. We rely mostly on transplants in our no-till system. Responsibility includes selecting variety order, ensuring clear communication to crew on spacing, depth, and bed preparation. In this position you are expected to be able to follow instructions on which materials to use, and how to handle seeds. Also necessary is keeping accurate records of which materials, how much and when they are used. This work is often done alone, or with the Production Manager.
Rate of pay is based on experience starting at $11/hr employees are paid bi-monthly via direct deposit. There are no employee benefits to this position (health/dental, 401k etc.) No on farm housing Mon-Sat we start about 1 hr after sunrise and work 8-10 hr days with .5-1.5hr lunch breaks depending on season
