Amherst Winter Farmers' Market - Saturdays 10:00-2:00 Amherst Middle School, 170 Chestnut Street ("behind" the Amherst Regional High School on Triangle Street)
Oh my gosh, this is NOT a picture from the Amherst Winter Farmers' Market, but we can dream, can't we?
OK, That's more like it! Root veggies, shallots, popcorn on the cob, certified organic heirloom tomato seeds, those are the items that anchor our stand this winter. Fresh sprouts are a new winter item for us: Alfalfa mixed with China Rose radish, Three Bean Lentil, Broccoli and Onion sprouts are some of more unusual varieties. We have had popcorn shoots that are raised in total darkness to produce some of the sweetest shoots we have ever tasted. It's like eating white sweet corn in August, right here in the depths of a New England winter. They are outrageous! photo by Fraylie Nord
We have had a lot of sprouts and shoots for sale at the Amherst Winter Market, and the list keeps growing: Adzuki bean, buckwheat lettuce, sunflower lettuce, Fenugreek sprouts and Daikon radish sprouts... in fact, people have been raving about our reasonably priced "cat" grass which is great for your pets, and their owners as well! We finally have some popcorn that is "off" the cob, ready to pop in hot oil, hot air or the modern microwave. Stop by and see us on Saturdays from 10:00 to 2:00!
